I don’t know how to start, these darn tears are making it hard to see the screen.
Together, we raised over $800 in funds to buy goods that went directly to the people hurt and displaced by the earthquakes in Mexico.
Together we supplied people who lost everything with much needed goods including:
- Baby food
- Sanitary pads
- Diapers
- Baby wash and powder
- Toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Soap
- Deodorant
- Granola bars
- Nuts
- Underwear for kids and adults (yes, I got plus-sizes!)
- Socks for kids and adults
- Trash bags
- Brooms and dustbins
- Cleaning soap
- Cleaning gloves
- And loads of drinking water
Plus, we donated hundreds of dollars to Los Topos, the highly-trained group of “Moles” that dig into the rubble and pull people out – saving over 200 people in the September 19 Mexico City earthquake alone.
We also bought the volunteers food and water, which they very much appreciated and wanted me to personally thank all of you for your generous donations.
Over the month of September, you all have also given hundreds of dollars and hours of your time to the Mexican Cruz Roja, the American Red Cross, to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria relief organizations, to Oaxaca Street Children Grassroots, to food banks and local charities.
Together, we have helped thousands of people, just in September alone.
All with donations of $100 or less. The average donation was $10.
Proving that with a little bit of money and a lot of love we can make a difference in this world.
When I sent out my questionnaire asking what you want to know about the business of writing, every single reply said you were struggling financially. Yet you gave.
You gave your money. You gave your time. You gave your energy.
You did more than just share a picture on Instagram or change your Facebook profile image.
You stepped up and helped.
And I love you so much for doing that.
