You are not defined by your flaws.

Here’s the thing: you’re gonna drop some balls.

You’re going to make mistakes. You’re going to !@#$ up royally. You’re going to have to say I’m sorry, you’re going to have to give a mea culpa, you’re going to have to get on your knees and ask forgiveness.

And then you’re going to have to get up off the floor and start juggling again.

Today, I not only posted a testimonial with spelling errors, I also attributed the quote to the wrong person. It wasn’t a big mistake in the end, but it felt huge when I dropped that ball. Add that to the long list of things I shouldn’t have done and did, the even wider list of things I should do and didn’t, and you have a lot of potential for feeling like a failure.

But I am not a failure, and neither are any of you. As Danielle LaPorte says, “absolutely everything is progress.”

Every day, I remind myself “I had to be the person I was to be the person I am. I had to feel/learn/experience those things so I can feel/learn/experience this.”

You are not defined by the mistakes you’ve made. Your life is allowed a constant learning curve. You have permission to fail.

I leave you here with a quote from Samuel Beckett that my friend Dr. Martina Shabram (whom I misquoted earlier today) has tattooed on her arm.

“Every tried. Every failed. No Matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”

With love and light,

Lauren
